How to Confirm a 2022 GM 1500 Refresh Model
How to Confirm If Your 2022 GM 1500 Is a Refresh Model
Some 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks are built as 2022.5 Refresh models, while others are 2022.1 Pre-Refresh models. Before choosing an AFM/DFM control module or compatibility-related accessory, it is important to confirm which version your truck is.
The most reliable way to check is by using the factory RPO information stored through the QR code on your vehicle.
Step 1: Open the Driver’s Door
Open the driver-side door and look at the door jamb area. On newer GM trucks, the RPO information is no longer listed on the old glovebox sticker.
Step 2: Find the QR Code on the B-Pillar
Locate the QR code on the driver-side B-pillar. This QR code contains vehicle-specific production information, including the complete RPO list for your VIN.
Step 3: Scan the QR Code
Use your phone camera to scan the QR code. After scanning, a page should open showing the full RPO code list for your vehicle.
Step 4: Look for Code J22
Check the RPO list carefully and look for this code:
J22
If J22 is present, your truck is a 2022.5 Refresh model.
If J22 is absent, your truck is likely a 2022.1 Pre-Refresh model.
This is the most accurate method because it uses the vehicle’s factory RPO data.
Alternative VIN-Based Check
If the QR code is damaged, missing, or difficult to scan, you can also check the VIN sequence.
Look at the last 12 digits of your VIN. If the 12th digit is 5 or higher, the truck is generally considered a 2022.5 Refresh model.
Examples include:
NG5, NG6, NG7
NZ5, NZ6, NZ7
If the VIN sequence is lower than these examples, your truck is more likely a 2022.1 Pre-Refresh model.
Why This Matters
Confirming whether your truck is Refresh or Pre-Refresh helps ensure you choose the correct compatible product. For AFM/DFM-related accessories, fitment can vary by model year, engine type, and vehicle configuration.
Always check your RPO code and product compatibility before ordering.
